Belated day 3: tavern.
When I think of this classic fantasy gaming trope – starting in a tavern; i think of my characters. When i make them I do it of a simple and quick idea – usually an archetype with a simple twist, not even a twist, a curiosity I like or find internally entertaining. They are nothing to me but an idea, a character sheet. But to become a character, oh for that I need to play.
Starting in a proverbial tavern to me is a chance to find the character. A starting situation that allows me to discover how the character acts, how they talk, how they react to things … I need something slow and easy to start with.
it’s like trying on a suit for the first time. You need to put it on, fit it, button it up, stretch out in it, tuck it … feel it.
