Journey

Despite best efforts, an unexpected real-life journey took me away from the keyboard for a few more days, so a belated day 7: journey.

These days I am all for a tight shorter campaign. That doesn’t leave much space for doing journey’s that are not a part of the actual core campaign.

My Thursday group recently wrapped up a campaign of an exiled Ironsworn circle (their clan), where the journey was the framing device for the campaign. We did use the travel moves in the adventures themselves, but they were set to the lower difficulties, not to take away the focus from the problem at hand.

A few years ago I played in a two man co-op One Ring game. While I did like the journey mechanic there, I am not sure if I would have liked it in the long run. The game, unfortunately, fell apart before we had too many chances to go places. But thinking back, I have a feeling that to me it would start feeling like a chore. Not sure, and would definitely like to try again.
