Prompts for RPG a day 2025

Inspire

It is bleated day 9 on RPG a day 2025: inspire.

It should not be a shock to hear that I like the RPG hobby. So I like to read about it, and sometimes I buy and read the GM self-help books. A few weeks back I stumbled upon The No-Prep Gamemaster: Train Your Brain to Run Tabletop Roleplaying Games (not an affiliate link). The best piece of advice inside is to read non-gaming books, explore the world around you, take in everything. The book says it will train you and give you an internal library of things to do in game; but it will also provide you with a lot of inspiration.

When an idea for a game interests me I like to look into it like anyone else I presume. But I also like to think about stuff by explaining the why or how when it makes no sense or seams impossible. For example we are in the middle of a 1800s Vampire: the Masquerade game set in Sankt-Petersburg. While setting it up I found out that the city is so far north, it has permanent daylight for four months. Now trying to find why and how vampires would settle there, building a mystery around being able to function during that period – all a product of simple inspirations found by accident.
